Talk on VLSI

Talk on VLSI

Introduction to VLSI domains including Front-end, Back-end, and Verification, along with the complete VLSI design flow from specification to tape-out. The session also highlights higher education opportunities for entering the VLSI industry.

Speakers explain how each domain contributes to chip design, the required skills and tools, and the importance of strong fundamentals such as digital electronics, VLSI design, CMOS technology, Verilog, and programming. The discussion includes current job trends, hiring companies in India including startups, core industries, and MNCs, as well as the growing role of AI/ML integration in VLSI. Information regarding internships, training programs, certifications, and career growth from entry-level engineer to architect is also covered.

Students are guided on how to begin a career in VLSI during college through coding practice, HDL learning, and project-based development. The session also covers resume-building tips, interview preparation, technical screening topics, and examples of projects suitable for second- and third-year students.

Speaker 1 focuses on Front-end roles such as Logic Design Engineer, RTL Design Engineer, Synthesis Engineer, Microarchitecture Engineer, and SoC Integration Engineer.

Speaker 2 explains Verification and Validation roles including Design Verification Engineer, Functional Verification Engineer, UVM Engineer, Formal Verification Engineer, and Post-Silicon Validation Engineer.

Speaker 3 discusses Back-end and Physical Design roles such as Physical Design Engineer, Floorplanning Engineer, STA Engineer, Physical Verification Engineer, and Sign-off Engineer.
