Date: August 23, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
No. of Participants: 57 students
The IEEE Student Branch of OUCE, in collaboration with the Engineering in Medicine and
Biology Society (EMBS), organized an insightful online webinar on “Innovation in Healthcare
Device for Mankind and Society” on August 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The session
witnessed the participation of 57 enthusiastic students from various engineering branches who
were keen to explore the scope of innovation in healthcare and gain expert insights.
The event began with the introduction of the distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Preeta Sharan,
Professor and Dean (R&D) at Oxford College of Engineering and Chair of Prakash Bharati. Dr.
Sharan is a renowned academician and researcher, with expertise in device development for
PWD sensors, fiber optics, and advanced healthcare technologies. She holds a Post-Doctoral
Fellowship from IIT Kharagpur in Optical Fibre Bragg Grating and Optical Sensors and has made
several remarkable contributions to the field of biomedical engineering.
In her address, Dr. Sharan shared her extensive research journey and highlighted innovative
projects that focus on improving healthcare accessibility and technology. She spoke about
research certifications, university projects, and her published work and citations. She presented
several pioneering devices such as a wireless mouse and keyboard for the physically disabled
funded by ICMR, a human bite measurement device funded by VGST, and a tunable grip
measurement device for arthritis which was recognized as the Best Outstanding Project by
KSCST-25. Other notable developments included a hand grip monitoring device using Optical
FBG funded by VGST-CISEE, a palm pressure measuring device supported by DST, and
advancements in 3D device modeling along with Android application integration.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating in the discussions and
asking questions about device innovation, applications in healthcare, and research
opportunities. Dr. Sharan patiently addressed each query, offering valuable insights that
encouraged students to think beyond traditional approaches in biomedical engineering.
The webinar concluded with a formal vote of thanks by K. Harika, Chairperson of IEEE EMBS,
who expressed gratitude to Dr. Preeta Sharan for sharing her knowledge and inspiring students
through her work. A memento of appreciation was presented on behalf of IEEE SB OUCE EMBS
as a token of recognition.
